How the Zelda II instruction manual inspired Tunic

Almost everyone has likely heard about the new Zelda-esque adventure game titled Tunic. While the similarities between games are evident, the storyline of Tunic very much develops into its own game entirely. However, it’s no coincidence that the two games share resemblance; the developer of Tunic, Andrew Shouldice, has made it no secret that he drew inspiration from Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. Tunic’s in-game manual shows heavy inspiration from the Zelda title in a really nostalgic throwback to when game manuals were more intrinsic to the player’s experience.

Though Rock, Paper, Shotgun has a more comprehensive review of all the similarities, both game manual maps showcase many of both the similarities and differences. For example, Tunic’s map has a more square and geometric approach, where as Zelda II is more traditional, but the resemblance is still visible.

Tunic has received fantastic reviews, so if you’re someone who has access to a PC or Xbox, and you’re in the market for a nostalgic Zelda-esque adventure – be sure to check it out.
