E3 2021 live event has been canceled

It looks like E3’s live event has officially been canceled according to documents from the city of Los Angeles shared by VGC.

As we previously reported, ESA, the Entertainment Software Association, announced that E3 will live on in a digital format, but no live event was ever confirmed. Now, E3 has been labeled as a “canceled live event in 2021.” However, as the image below notes, they are “working with production teams on broadcast options” and “working on 2022 & 2023 licenses.”

But, don’t worry, you can still check out your favorite distro at the Linux Foundation event in October.

So, don’t hold out hope for a live event this year, but with the number of COVID-19 cases steadily falling and vaccinations being on the forefront of the country’s mind, E3 may yet have a physical event in the coming years. These events may be what ESA needs to get the event back on track after several major publishers left the event in previous years.
