Zelda fan builds functional Zora guitars from Majora’s Mask

There are many different kinds of Zelda merchandise. From water bottles to clothes and even replicas of the Master Sword, there is a lot to choose from. One Zelda fan in particular, Brian from Brian’s Big List of Projects on Youtube, has made the dream of the fishbone guitar and crab bass from Majora’s Mask become reality. Unlike the special edition fishbone guitar that Nintendo had a giveaway for to celebrate the January 2001 edition of Nintendo Power magazine, the guitars Brian created are more accurate to the ones shown in-game.

The fishbone guitar was made first. Its design is a mix between the N64 version and the one featured in the Nintendo Power giveaway with it being fully playable like the latter. A headless guitar was painted to look like the in-game instrument and 3D printed pieces were made to ensure the design was accurate. Brian then decided to attempt to recreate Japa’s crab bass, which turned out be more of a challenge than he originally thought. The carapace part alone took one kilogram of printed filament. Additional materials were later needed since he had dropped it off-camera which caused part of the carapace to break off. The crab arm and eyes were made using actual toiletries with the white spots on the arm and claw being toothpaste.
