LEGO to release Game Boy set with Link’s Awakening brick cartridge

The $59.99 LEGO Game Boy set is available to pre-order now and will release October 1, 2025.

Originally released in 1989, the Nintendo Game Boy revolutionized the gaming experience by allowing gamers the ability to play their favorite titles portably. The system was a huge success, selling over 100 million units and creating countless memories for fans worldwide. Now over 35 years later, toy brick company LEGO is releasing a new set celebrating the beloved retro handheld console.

The 421-piece set is a near life-sized recreation of the system, including details such as the D-pad, buttons, and Game Pak slot. The set is intended for an adult audience and includes a display stand for the system. Also included in the build are two LEGO brick cartridges featuring classic Game Boy titles that can be inserted into the console: Super Mario Land and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. The set additionally comes with three interchangeable “screens” for the system, including one for each of these titles.

This set marks a further step in LEGO and Nintendo’s recent collaboration efforts, which has resulted in multiple officially licensed releases. In 2020, LEGO released The LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), the only other Nintendo console to be recreated. In September 2024, the first LEGO set based on The Legend of Zelda was released, featuring The Great Deku Tree from both Ocarina of Time and Breath of the Wild. This makes the LEGO Game Boy the second time The Legend of Zelda series has been referenced, potentially opening the door for future collaborations.

The LEGO Game Boy releases October 1, 2025 and will retail for $59.99. You can preorder it now from Amazon, Best Buy, Target, Walmart, and LEGO’s website
