Yuga’s Art Gallery: The Bricks of Evil’s Bane

I love creating custom LEGO builds, but I’m ashamed to say I haven’t designed many Zelda-inspired projects. A lot of that has to do with me being stubborn and continually holding onto the hope that LEGO and Nintendo will finally make my dreams come true and release official Legend of Zelda sets. I can keep waiting for that to happen, but maybe I should let some custom designs inspire me to do the work myself.

I think this LEGO Master Sword is going to give me plenty of inspiration.

This build by LEGO artist StateAlchemist is a life-size Master Sword built entirely out of everyone’s favorite building blocks. And as you can see, the designer made every effort to give the noble blade the detail and grandeur it deserves.

There have been multiple iterations of the Master Sword throughout the Zelda series, but for this build, StateAlchemist chose to copy the design seen in Skyward Sword and Breath of the Wild. It is a contemporary design that all Zelda fans can easily recognize (and appropriately adore).

The design is wonderful, but what’s equally important to a LEGO model is the build quality. This LEGO Master Sword has a complete set of thorough instructions, which you can purchase from the Brick Vault website. The instructions come as a PDF with a XML part list. Be aware though: The instructions are $23.99 USD, but you’ll still need to buy all of the LEGO pieces separately. To do that, expect to pay between $200 to $275, depending on which build options you choose.

If you follow the instructions, the end result will be a sturdy (for LEGO) piece of art you can wield or display with pride. The LEGO Master Sword uses standard LEGO pieces for its aesthetics, but the interior is made stable by using plenty of LEGO Technic pieces. So, while the sword won’t be good for cutting down grass and foes alike, it’s not going to break apart simply by holding it.

This is a custom build that only strengthens my frustration with LEGO and Nintendo. My home could be filled with sets like this, but those companies just have to be blind to the opportunity, don’t they? Well, at least people like StateAlchemist are out there, channeling their inner Link by being our heroes.
