A new trailer for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment was revealed Thursday at the Nintendo Partner Direct showcase. This trailer appears to be more story focused as it hones in on the Imprisoning War from the Sages’ perspectives as told in the story of Tears of the Kingdom. Even though it’s a smaller trailer with less than two minutes’ worth of content, Nintendo and Koei Tecmo’s new AAA Studio were not shy to pull back the curtain just enough to reveal important teasers to the public. No release date for Age of Imprisonment is revealed at this time.
The trailer begins with Queen Sonia and Princess Zelda walking through what appears to be either a fully intact ancient Hyrule Castle or Forgotten Temple. The next shot shows King Rauru giving the Goron Sage his Zonai helmet that resembles Rudania. Then the tone descends into a melancholic shift. Gameplay screenshots ensue, showing Rauru, Sonia, Zelda and the Sages fighting hordes of monsters at various points of the game, showing a glimpse of the Switch 2 hardware’s impressive processing capabilities.
The face of the Gerudo Sage is finally revealed as we see her curiously fight Rauru in the Gerudo Desert. The trailer ends with a mysterious and compelling scene of a large construct being put together somewhere in the Depths. Intriguingly, the scene hearkens back to both Link’s awakening scene in Breath of the Wild and the room in the Forgotten Foundation where Ganondorf is first discovered in the Tears of the Kingdom prologue. Fans are reporting that the construct shares visual resemblances to Link. Could this have something to do with the Ancient Hero’s Aspect? Or is this a way for the Hero of the Wild to become playable in the game with Hyrule’s distant past setting? One thing is certain, this trailer is sure to keep Zelda fans busy for a while.
