It’s been a turbulent ride for the Switch 2 so far, but it looks like we finally see light at the end of the tunnel. Following an awkward pause on preorders due to international trade concerns, Nintendo announced today that the preorder date for the Switch 2 console is now back on track. Preorders will open for United States customers April 24th via various retail outlets, including Best Buy, GameStop, and Target. Some retailers, such as Best Buy, will open preorders on midnight of that day local time. No preorders will be listed on Amazon for the U.S. that we know of.
Nintendo clarified that the retail prices for the Switch 2 console and select games such as Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza will remain the same. It is important to note that the Switch 2 consoles are being manufactured in Vietnam.
Nintendo also stated, however, that the retail prices of some Switch 2 accessories that are sold separately may be affected. The reason for such was not stated by Nintendo, but these accessories are likely being made in other countries. You can see the list of accessories provided by Nintendo and GameStop below. It is not known which ones will be affected by the price changes, but savvy shoppers might be able to figure it out through the country origin of manufacture and deductive reasoning.
That said, it’s also important to remember that all Switch 2 units will already come with a Joy Con 2 Pair and a charge dock and cord. With the exception of an webcam, the other Switch 2 accessories are nice to have but are technically not required to start playing. “We apologize for the retail pre-order delay, and hope this reduces some of the uncertainty our customers may be experiencing,” says Nintendo. “We thank our customers for their patience, and we share their excitement to experience Nintendo Switch 2 starting June 5, 2025.”
