Nintendo just announced a new feature for the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 that introduces the flexibility of physical game cards to digital copies of your games. Aptly named Virtual Game Cards, this feature allows you to easily move your games between two Switch systems linked to the same Nintendo account. Once you eject the virtual game card from one system and load it to the other, you’ll be able to play the game without an internet connection and allow other users on the system the ability to play it.
Another cool feature is being able to lend games to members of your Nintendo Account family group. You’ll have to initially establish a local connection to take advantage of this feature, however. Borrowers will have access to the game for 14 days unless they return it before then. After the 14 days, the game is returned to the owner, but the borrower will still keep their save data until they either borrow the game again or purchase their own copy. This is a cool feature for those who are watching their wallets or are simply unsure of whether or not they want to fully invest in a game.
Virtual game cards are set to release in late April 2025.
