As we look forward to the in-depth reveal of a new console on the horizon, we’re taking a look back to appreciate the Switch’s remarkable 8-year journey. Let’s face it, from its debut in 2017 onwards the Switch had a rather uphill battle to climb. Finding itself in the wake of struggling Wii U sales and a world of smartphones, it seemed almost as if Nintendo was falling behind the game. That notion seems laughable today now that the Switch is well on its way to become one of the best-selling game consoles of all time. This wouldn’t have been made possible of course without Nintendo making excellent games.
According to Rolling Stone magazine, those games happen to be Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, with the latter clocking in at number six in their list of “The 20 Best Nintendo Switch Games of all Time.” Breath of the Wild gained the incredible honor of achieving number one on the list, as well as winning the number one spot for Rolling Stone’s “The 50 Greatest Video Games of All Time.” It’s reasonable to say that both games have defined video game history and culture as we know it. We can’t think of a better fitting comeback story for Nintendo if we do say so ourselves. You can read the full top 20 list here.
