The Legend of Zelda is undoubtedly one of the most inspiring games that was ever made. Its unmistakable elements can be seen in almost every facet of gaming, from huge expansive exploration games to amazing sword combat-focused ones, even down to the simplistic 2D side scrollers that seem to borrow just enough of that Zelda magic. (Here’s looking at you, Tunic.) It may come as no surprise then that many game developers have tried their hands at the Zelda formula in some way or another. The former Capcom game developer company Inti Creates is no different. They have created several Mega Man games in the past. Back in the first of April this year, Inti Creates teased a new 2D action adventure game by the name of Divine Dynamo Flamefrit. It boasted numerous elements inspired by The Legend of Zelda Series and popular 90’s anime art style and themes. Many gamers were extremely excited by what they saw but figured it was only another joke, as is the case with anything shown on April Fool’s Day. Luckily, it seems that this time the joke’s on us, because Inti Creates has now revealed the game is alive and well and coming to a Switch console near you.
Divine Dynamo Flamefrit looks to be an amazing game. Borrowing from 1990’s pop culture such as The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past gameplay, mech robot battles, and a beautiful 90’s anime art style, this game seems to already get on the right foot. Players will fight their way through numerous enemies and pick up teammates along the way, just like any good old-fashioned RPG game. The main character is a young lad named Yuto Hino, the sword-wielding protagonist who of course ventures around fighting evil and meeting companions along the way. Yuto seems to resemble more of Crono from Chrono Trigger than Link. However, the game definitely has an overall Zelda vibe to it and all of the characters are fully voice acted, too.

Yuto will be joined by other allies who all have different personalities and skills, such as magic wielding that can help in a fight. Boss battles also have a different flavor to them as they are in a Metroid style first-person shooter view while the player is in the perspective of a mech robot of sorts. It’s quite a unique take on an older style of gameplay that paved the way for many games that have come after.

Even though the game seemed to start as an April Fool’s joke, it’s refreshing to see that an indie game like this exists. People who are excited about it won’t have to wait long. The game is slated to be released in Winter 2024 for Nintendo Switch as well as other platforms. Good luck out there and remember, it’s dangerous to go alone!
