The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is just around the corner and the excitement is palpable. Nintendo treated us with a brand new four-minute trailer last week and a whole bunch of new information and details from the game. Some of these new tidbits come from the game’s official US website which not only gives us an overview of the mechanics that we have already seen in previous trailers, but also provides some idea as to where the adventure might begin.
It seems like we can expect the game to start us off on one of the floating islands we have been seeing in recent showings of the game. Similarly to how the Great Plateau functioned as a tutorial area for Breath of the Wild, we can assume these islands will serve the same purpose in Tears of the Kingdom. Once Link gains his new abilities, he’ll be able to return the surface below and continue the adventure. The site also mentions that the Hyrule we’ve explored in the previous game has been dramatically transformed which is reassuring to know since some fans were worried this sequel’s open world might not feel too different from its predecessor’s.
Interestingly, thanks to the UK’s overview site for the game, we now also know that Ganondorf’s reawakening is being referred to as “The Upheaval,” which is likely this game’s equivalent to “The Calamity.” How this event will affect the moment-to-moment gameplay or the plot as a whole is still a mystery, however. It won’t be too long until we find out when the game launches on May 12.
