Ganondorf’s voice actor in Tears of the Kingdom is revealed early

No, this is not a drill. Less than twenty-four hours after Nintendo revealed the final trailer for Tears of the Kingdom, the Big N gave Ganondorf’s voice actor the go-ahead to announce himself publicly on Twitter. It turns out that the voice of the King of Evil belongs to none other than Matthew Mercer!

Matthew Mercer is no stranger to voice acting for Nintendo. You are probably familiar with his voice if you are an avid video game fan. Matthew’s reputed talents have given life to many characters for multiple franchises across the board, including Ryoma and Chrom from the Fire Emblem series, Yusuke Kitagawa in Persona 5 Royal and Strikers, and Leon in Resident Evil 6. He also has extensive experience in theater and voice acting for animation. Matthew won multiple BTVA Video Game and Anime Dub awards, including 2017 Voice Actor of the Year for his phenomenal role as McCree in Overwatch. He is now the Executive Producer for the upcoming animated series The Legend of Vox Machina on Amazon Prime Video. These days, he’s known as Chief Creative Officer and active cast member of his incredibly entertaining Dungeons and Dragons-inspired Critical Role show. You can check out the show and the rest of his accolades here.

Believe it or not, Matthew acted as Ganondorf before many moons ago! He even dressed up like him in the hit Smash Bros. inspired web production, There Will be Brawl. He also acted as Kirby and Meta Knight. We can’t help but beam at Matthew’s excitement spilling all over his Twitter thread. “I have been an immense Legend of Zelda fan since I was a child, and Ganondorf has been one of my favorite antagonists… to the point where I portrayed this green-skinned menace for my webseries over a decade ago!” he stated. “Many of you know the weight of expectation on my shoulders for this, and I hope to do you proud.” Matthew shared photos of himself cosplaying Link as a child and later Ganondorf from There Will be Brawl in his Twitter thread.

We’ll keep you posted as more information about Tears of the Kingdom gets revealed, coming soon May 12!
