There’s plenty to unpack here in Eiji Aonuma’s gameplay demonstration of Tears of the Kingdom, and if there’s anything for fans to get excited about, it’s the long-awaited confirmation of one popular theory. Yes it’s true, the mysterious Zonai race is officially mentioned in the game!

Remember that green mechanical creature we saw from the earlier trailer? That could have been an ancient Zonai contraption that is now Link’s enemy. In the gameplay trailer revealed March 28, we see Link fighting a brand new robotic enemy. This little guy looks related to its bigger cousin and is apparently smart enough to use items in the area as weapons. But what’s especially interesting are the items Link collects from his foe after it is defeated: a “Zonai Charge,” and a “Soldier Construct Horn.”

In the gameplay trailer, Eiji Aonuma revealed that the enemy is called a Soldier Construct, and there are several of them Link encounters in the footage. They seem to be powered with the same type of green goo energy that embodies Link’s hand, implying that the Zonai could be a very intelligent tinkering type of folk. It makes sense with the rest of Link’s abilities featured as well, which include building objects with the said goo like an adhesive. The possibilities appear to be endless. You can watch the full gameplay trailer here.
Are all of these Soldier Constructs enemies, or are any of them friendly? What is their purpose? Do they become friendly in the future? We’ll keep you posted as even more cool info about Tears of the Kingdom becomes available!
