As the deal came to a close on October 3rd for Nintendo’s buyout of Tokyo-based company Dynamo Pictures, a new website was recently launched to help establish the transition. Now named Nintendo Pictures, the new subdivision aims “to make Nintendo characters known to customers around the world and create one-of-a-kind videos that will remain in their memories forever.” The website is currently in Japanese.

Though technically a buyout, the deal is more akin to something of a family adoption. Dynamo Pictures had already worked closely with Nintendo for years on various projects that include animated shorts and in-game cutscenes for big titles like Metroid: Other M and Persona 5. You might have also seen their animated Pikmin shorts on the Wii U and 3DS. Those mini-movies were personally produced with Shigeru Miyamoto’s help. Dynamo also specialized in computer graphic animation for movies and TV shows. With this in mind, the new buyout may help make operations easier for producing full-scale productions and more complex cutscenes featuring beloved Nintendo franchises.
“…Each and every one of our employees will work hard to create an organization that can continue to grow, by always considering what could be interesting to customers around the world, and engaging in production work that they enjoy themselves,” stated the Nintendo Pictures website. “We will continue to take on the challenge of providing unique and surprising images to customers around the world, transcending generations and eras.” As for Nintendo Studios, the name responsible for co-handling the Super Mario Bros. Movie with Illumination, that name appears to be a separate entity from Nintendo Pictures in the meantime.
Speaking of which, a Nintendo Direct was also announced that will focus on the trailer for the Super Mario Bros. Movie on October 6th.
