Nintendo Switch OLED’s website confirms revision will use the same Joy-Con controllers

According to the Nintendo Switch OLED’s UK website, the new console will make use of the same Joy-Cons as the regular Switch model. In other words, your OLED Joy-Cons might drift harder than a hero adrift in time.

The Switch Joy-Con is nothing short of amazing, with its motion controls, HD rumble, and versatile nature. However, as with all good things, there has to be a drawback. In this case, it is the notorious “drift” problem. Often caused by dust getting stuck between the control stick and its sensor, or even just wear and tear, the Joy-Con’s joystick can eventually start to lag off in a certain direction. A Joy-Con user taps forward on the stick, and the controller will think they are just holding it there, creating a feeling of drifting as the controller struggles to read the input.

Despite this being a massive problem for both Nintendo and fans, Nintendo has yet to truly address the matter. And according to the FAQ section of the Nintendo Switch OLED’s website, this still appears to be the case. Question number four asks if previous Joy-Cons will work on the new model, to which the website responds that the controllers are the exact same. So those slick white Joy-Cons might drift on players as well, unless the issue has been fixed in the more recently manufactured versions.

Overall the Nintendo Switch OLED seems to be a simple but decent upgrade, so it is not too surprising that Nintendo would decide to reuse the existing and, for the most part, impressive Joy-Con.
