Did You Know Gaming investigates Retro Studios’ canceled Sheikah spin-off in a new YouTube video

A Zelda spin-off about the Sheikah tribe developed by the studio behind Metroid Prime seems like a dream, but apparently, it was close to being a real thing according to Did You Know Gaming’s (DYKG) recent investigation and interviews into the mysterious project.

Rumors first started appearing in 2020 when an artist who used to work for Retro Studios posted artwork they had drawn for the canceled game back in the day. The art showed a lone Sheikah exploring a gritty world similar to the style of games like Shadow of The Colossus. While the art captured the imagination of Zelda fans, barely anything else was known about the project.

Concept art of the main character

This is where DYKG entered the scene to look for answers. Luckily, they were able to get in contact with a couple of sources that worked on the game closely and were willing to talk about it. Much to DYKG’s surprise, it turned out that the game was a much bigger project than originally thought. Although, the tale as is not exactly a smooth one and DYKG’s video shows how this promising concept fell on its face rather quickly.

Maybe one day Nintendo will revisit this idea and create a Sheikah-centered spin-off, but only time will tell. Be sure to check out the full video by Did You Know Gaming below.
