Yacht Club Games has announced a new Kickstarter for their next big game: Mina The Hollower. Described as a “bone-chilling love letter to handheld gaming,” the new game follows the titular character, Mina, on a quest to discover who sabotaged the machines that provide energy to the island of Tenebrous. This gothic-horror-themed game is looking to be of a tone similar to Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment.
As you would expect from the developers of Shovel Knight, this game has all the look of retro favorites with the sensibilities of modern gaming. Two games that come to mind when first viewing this trailer are Oracle of Seasons/Ages and Castlevania Adventures. It appears to play like a Game Boy-era Zelda title, but with a whip as the primary weapon and being set in a Victorian-style world. The trailer’s music, from composer Jake Kaufman, is also amazing and a perfect match for the game’s theme.
The Kickstarter for this game is live now. At the time of this writing, just a week into the Kickstarter, the game has already more than doubled its asking funds. We will be keeping an eye on this game as it develops.
