Age of Calamity’s Guardian of Remembrance DLC coming October 29, Robbie and Purah playable

To our delight, Nintendo announced a new Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity DLC expansion pack in its latest Nintendo Direct presentation today. The Direct aired on September 23, which happens to be the company’s 132nd birthday! (That’s old enough to survive the Calamity and tell the reawakened Hero of the Wild about it, by the way.)

While no updates for the Breath of the Wild sequel are known at this time, this Direct proved to be meaty in its own right. Many notable game titles were shown off, including a sneak-peek trailer of the second DLC wave for Age of Calamity.

The trailer begins with our beloved little Guardian walking around a Hyrulean town. Our unsuspecting friend, however, gets ambushed by either one of the Blights or some form of Calamity Ganon himself. Multitudes of memories flash before the Guardian’s eye, including an appearance by each of the Champions, King Rhoam fighting, and Link seemingly teaching Zelda how to ride the motorcycle. We also see glimpses of Robbie and Purah, Astor summoning something ominous, and a Stalker Guardian being possessed by Calamity Ganon. The last thing the tiny guardian sees is Princess Zelda with her powers, in what seems to be a callback to the Age of Calamity prologue. Then, the guardian appears to be shattered into many pieces! Cue the title screen.

After the mysterious cinematic, it’s revealed that Robbie and Purah are finally playable in Age of Calamity. They fight together as a single unit, with Robbie showing off two awesome-looking, Guardian-style swords and Purah, well — just pushing a button and sitting pretty on a boulder as Robbie pulls her along? Ah, no matter. They look great together, anyway!

The second DLC Expansion Pass is called Guardian of Remembrance. It will be available on October 29 via the Nintendo eShop. In addition to Robbie and Purah, there will be more story events such as “Battle for Kakariko” and “Battle for Goponga.” Another playable character is also included, which has yet to be announced.

Who will the new character be? What will we find in a restored Goponga Village? We will likely have to wait until October 29 to find out. That’s fine with me, but there’s one major question I’m left pining to know: Is the little guy going to be OK?
