This weekend, famed GameCube characters such as Tetra and Medli from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker will be making their way back to you as Spirits in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. For those who are unaware, one of Ultimate’s major features is a Spirit Board that’s chock full of hundreds of characters from across Nintendo’s ever-expanding timeline.
It’s a fun way to celebrate all sorts of famed faces that didn’t make it into the game as playable cast or nifty Assist Trophies. Despite their more limited presence, Spirits can still play a vital role not only in the core single-player mode but even in competitive cases, should players agree to equip them. They’re essentially used as stat boosters, however, so don’t expect to see them pop up in any championship matches!
In the absence of the, Super Zelda Legends Ultimate fighting game that us diehards will always crave, expressive little in-game collectibles will have to do the trick. And Zelda characters aren’t the only GameCube-introduced Nintendo veterans, of course: You’ll find representatives from Pikmin, Super Mario Sunshine, and a personal fave of mine, Baten Kaitos.
