Sometimes, there’s nothing like remembering “the good old days.” For many, this includes playing games on the Nintendo 64 system (there really was nothing like challenging friends to a friendly round of Mario Kart, right?). Now, imgur user QnadianBacon has brought a little bit of that magic back to their own living room.
Purchasing a “for parts” Nintendo 64 system from eBay, QnadianBacon has transformed the once-broken piece of history into a usable system again, able to play Nintendo Switch games. Featuring a Switch cartridge slot on the side (so no console docking is required), and controller ports that have been transformed using USB ports (allowing for four wired controllers to be used at once), QnadianBacon successfully created a retro Nintendo 64 that can play Switch games!

In detailing the process of building what QnadianBacon has fittingly named the NS64, they say, “Besides the fact it looks cool and was fun to make, I wanted a dock that kept the Switch horizontal and had 4 built-in USB ports so I could use other 3rd-party controllers. That, and I’m nostalgic for the N64 I never had growing up (but played every chance I got).”
For a full breakdown of the building process, including all the system internals that went into making this creation and step-by-step images along the way, be sure to take a look at QnadianBacon’s imgur story.
