Skyward Sword HD’s ‘quality of life’ improvements make Fi’s advice optional, cutscenes skippable, and more

Nintendo recently dropped a new Skyward Sword HD trailer titled “Quality of Life” that introduces various enhancements new to the remaster coming later this month. The changes highlighted by Nintendo include:

  • optional help from Fi.
  • enhanced controls options.
  • enhanced frame rate.
  • fast-forward dialogue.
  • streamlined item information.
  • skippable cutscenes.

On top of all those changes, it was quickly discovered that the file select screen shown during the trailer confirmed the presence of autosaving, as the top file contains the word “autosave” beneath it! The only Zelda games that feature autosaving are Breath of the Wild and the 2019 Link’s Awakening remake, but it is certainly welcome in Skyward Sword too. Based upon the file select screen, it appears that the autosave will work much like the Link’s Awakening remake, with three file slots, and a unique slot dedicated to the autosave from the last played file.

Two weeks out from launch, and we finally know how Skyward Sword HD is fixing the problems of the original version. All of the “quality of life changes” presented in the trailer will dramatically help improve the feel and pacing of the game, making it a much smoother experience. The changes do not end here either, as the YouTube video’s description states that these are just a few of the quality of life changes, so we still may have more to learn about this game!
