Love it or hate it, the official timeline to the Zelda series was established in Hyrule Historia when Skyward Sword was originally released. Many think pieces were written and the world kept turning. However, Nintendo would love to remind players that it does, in fact, still exist with their newest Skyward Sword trailer.
The trailer reminds us that this takes place before Link awakens (Link’s Awakening) and before twilight fell (Twilight Princess). Both games have been remastered, so it makes sense that Nintendo would choose to highlight these titles. The trailer also ends by telling us that the legend starts here. The emphasis on this game being the start of the timeline is sure to fuel more discussions about what this means both for the timeline as a whole and for the Breath of the Wild sequel’s place in it.
Skyward Sword HD will release next week on July 16 for Nintendo Switch.
