Have you ever wanted to explore one of Nintendo’s manufacturing plants, or walk through a museum based upon the company’s history? Well, both opportunities might be available when the tentatively named “Nintendo Gallery” opens inside the Nintendo Uji Ogura Plant.
The Nintendo Uji Plant first opened up in 1969 and was renamed the Nintendo Uji Ogura Plant after it was renovated in 1988. During its history, the Uji plant offered customer service and repairs, as well as the manufacturing of classic playing and hanafuda cards. Hanafuda cards date back to the earliest of Nintendo products. Well before Mario rescued Peach or Link dawned his green hat, Nintendo was known for these gorgeous, flower-themed cards. By manufacturing the hanafuda cards, the Nintendo Uji Ogura Plant is already a big part of Nintendo’s history, making it a perfect place to honor the companies past and Nintendo wants to do just that.

Nintendo recently announced plans to transform the historic manufacturing site into a museum, or gallery, to display and showcase the many products Nintendo has released throughout the years. This will surely be a great opportunity to explore more than 100 years of Nintendo bringing toys and smiles to people across the globe. The museum will encompass the whole building, and the surrounding land to bring guests its exhibits and experiences.
The tentatively named “Nintendo Gallery” is currently planned to open sometime before the end of Nintendo’s 2023 fiscal year, which ends in March 2024. So, if you find yourself in Kyoto around that time, be sure to keep an eye out for what should be an amazing experience for any Nintendo fan!
