Today marks the formal opening of Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka. Led by none other than Mario Bros. creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Universal Studios Japan CEO Jean-Louis Bonnier, a limited number of guests were welcomed to experience the Mushroom Kingdom in a new way.

The launch comes after six years of preparation and a multitude of setbacks due to the global pandemic. Opening plans were originally slated for the summer of 2020 to coincide with the Summer Olympics in Toyko, but were postponed to February 2021 and then again until March following a new state of emergency declaration.

Even now, attendance is limited to ensure the safety of guests, and mask requirements and staggered entry times are strictly enforced within the park. Despite the restrictions, guests can enjoy everything the new land has to offer, from Mario-themed restaurants and shopping to the Mario Kart and Yoshi ride attractions.
Universal does have plans to bring Super Nintendo World to other parks as well, including Universal Orlando which is scheduled to open early 2025 as part of its Epic Universe park.
