Today’s Nintendo Direct presentation began with the latest Super Smash Bros. Ultimate invitation received by Pyra of the Xenoblade universe and, by extension, her alter ego Mythra. The duo will be released as part of the Fighters Pass Vol. 2 DLC in March of this year.

Not unlike Zelda and Sheik in Super Smash Bros. Melee, Pyra and Mythra are interchangeable in battle, adding a unique strategy to their fighting style. The power of the Aegis is unleashed as Pyra boosts her moves with fire, while Mythra focuses her light-based attacks to take down foes. Mythra also appears to have a counter by use of Foresight, similar to Shulk’s “Vision” down special.

As with all Challenger Packs, a new stage and new music will be added to the ever-expanding Ultimate library. Pyra and Mythra’s stage appears to be a tour of Alrest, with Azurda (aka “Gramps”) making an appearance alongside other familiar faces. Sidelined but not forgotten, protagonist Rex joins the ladies for their Final Smash of a Sacred Arrow and Burning Sword combo.

Pyra and Mythra are the fourth entry in the Vol. 2 Fighters Pass, which currently includes Min Min of ARMS, Minecraft’s Steve and Alex, and Sephiroth (who needs no introduction). Two more fighters remain to be revealed, which will round out the roster to a whopping 82 playable characters.
