The release date for Sephiroth, the latest DLC character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, was announced during Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – Mr. Sakurai Presents “Sephiroth” live presentation. The character will be available for purchase on December 22.

The Sephiroth DLC will include a brand-new stage and an assortment of new songs. The stage, Northern Cave, features a background that shows scenes and locations from the ending of Final Fantasy VII. Nine songs are being added to the game, with some examples being “One-Winged Angel” and “Cosmo Canyon.”
In addition to the Sephiroth DLC, five new Mii Fighter costumes were announced. Four of the five costumes are inspired by characters from Final Fantasy VII, such as Aerith and Tifa. The fifth costume will be based on Geno, a character from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.

Near the end of the presentation, Mr. Sakurai also announced the Sephiroth Challenge, a time-limited game mode that will allow players to fight Sephiroth. If a player wins this mode and has already purchased the Sephiroth DLC or Fighters Pass Vol. 2, they will be allowed to use Sephiroth and the stage before the official release date. The mode will be available from December 17 until December 22 at 5:00 p.m. PT.
