Medli’s Melodies: Kaepora Gaebora groove

I often feel that Kaepora Gaebora’s theme song is commonly overlooked when it comes to Zelda songs. It’s a cute little melody of a whimsical nature that plays whenever the character is near. However, it’s likely that we focus oh so often on his endless dialogue that people can’t take the time to appreciate this merry tune. However, add a little synthetic funk to this piece and you’ll find yourself groovin’ along to the Kaepora Gaebora beat!

Qumu has an extensive library of synthetic remixes of gaming classics, but this rendition of Kaepora Gaebora’s theme is among my favorites. It’s an upbeat and funky take on this traditionally more classical piece. There are still classical elements present in the bridge of the song, mixed perfectly with an 8-bit synth. It’s the best of both worlds!

I am a huge fan of Qumu’s work in general, and something that I love most about this remix is the freestyle that’s thrown into the mix. You can they had a ton of fun adding it in while making it sound more like that freeform funk style it was transformed into. You can hear it clearly in the second loop of the song with that bass groove.

I always thought of this song as fun and charming, and Qumu’s remix has certainly stayed true to that. Even though it might sound different in terms of instrument or genre choice, it stays true to the original melody. This is a track that you will definitely want to hear again, so don’t mash that A button!
