Medli’s Melodies: GlitchxCity’s ‘Midna’s Lament’

The Legend of Zelda is known for many iconic musical pieces. Some, like “Zelda’s Lullaby” and “Ganon’s Theme,” permeate the series at large, forming the base for dozens of variations to be capitalized upon. Other themes only show up once, period, and thus become iconic in their own way. Songs like the “Ballad of the Wind Fish” and the “Song of Storms” have this quality.

Beloved among songs like these is “Midna’s Lament,” featured solely in Twilight Princess. The piece plays upon completion of the Water Temple; Zant gravely injures Midna and locks Link in his wolf form. Link must carry Midna to Hyrule Castle to seek help from Princess Zelda. Along the way, “Midna’s Lament” plays: a heartwrenching piano solo that makes you question if Midna is going to make it, urging you all the more to deliver her to the castle.

There have been many covers and remixes made of this emotional piece, in many genres and styles. Being a fan of lo-fi, I came across GlitchxCity’s remix of the song. It puts a jazzy tempo on the piece without sacrificing the emotion. It’s definitely a song I would listen to in the rain.

GlitchxCity is no stranger to Zelda remixes. Here on Zelda Universe, we’ve covered her incredible rendition of the “Song of Storms” from Ocarina of Time, and there are even more examples of her talent on Spotify and YouTube.
