A wave of Nintendo leaks has been flooding the Zelda community this past week, with information about unused material for both Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask being revealed, as well as designs for what seems to be an abandoned 2D Zelda project.
Discovered by Twitter user @Zel640, there appears to be an unused archery mini-game for Majora’s Mask. The mini-game would have been located in the Great Bay, sharing a similar appearance to the Gerudo archery mini-game in Ocarina of Time.
It’s possible the archery mini-game in the Great Bay was simply replaced with the one of the other two shooting mini-games found in Majora’s Mask, those being the Town Shooting Gallery and the Swamp Shooting Gallery. It is also possible the game was swapped for the Boomerang mini-game located in the Great Bay.
Whatever the reason for the mini-game’s absence, this has been a very interesting leak. As someone who adores the mini-games in the Zelda franchise, I would have loved another mini-game in Majora’s Mask. However, this is likely only one of many ideas not to be implemented into the final product of a Zelda game. With the advent of these leaks, one can only wonder how many other ideas did not make it into the beloved games we know today.
