The final day is upon us, as Majora’s Mask has released into the Nintendo Switch Online Nintendo 64 app. This comes with an update to the app itself boasting new enhancements to the emulation process.
According to Twitter user OatmealDome, the updated 2.0 app has several improvements to the emulation of Nintendo 64 games. These include the return of the fog effect and a vastly improved Mirror Room in the Water Temple of Ocarina of Time.
Majora’s Mask is one of the most interesting releases in our beloved series. It doesn’t involve Hyrule, Ganon, The Master Sword, or Triforce. Instead, it’s a much more intimate story set in a world besieged by sorrow caused by the titular evil mask. Death itself awaits everyone in three days, but fortunately Link has the ability to throw himself back in time to try and fix everything again. It’s a gloomy, mysterious new world to explore, and we really haven’t had anything like it since.
It tends to be one of the more divisive Zelda games. Some people found it to be a let down after the monumental Ocarina of Time. It has fewer dungeons, a smaller world, and many people just don’t like the three day time-travel mechanics. Conversely, many are drawn in by the glum atmosphere and more twisted stories. It seems to be the benchmark for “will the next Zelda be DARK?!” every time we get a new game announcement.
If you’re about to dive into Majora’s Mask, remember that it can be quite perilous. Take one of these guides we’ve lovingly crafted for you!
