Nintendo’s 2020 annual report indicates some development schedules might be delayed as the company’s operations continue to be affected by the global COVID-19 pandemic.
In the report, the spread of COVID-19 is identified as a risk factor that could have a significant effect on Nintendo’s share price, its financial situation, and its operations.
“Development schedules may be impacted due to the difference in development environment between working from home and in the office since teleworking is implemented at the Company and its partners,” the report reads. “As a result, we may not be able to proceed with the release of Nintendo products and the start of services as planned.”
The company says it is trying to balance the entertainment needs of its customers, and the health and well-being of its employees.
“Nintendo will continue to conduct business operations by taking necessary measures so that it can continue to provide an environment in which consumers can enjoy its products and services, while giving due consideration to the health and safety of its consumers and employees.”
Nintendo’s product supply has also been affected by the pandemic. Reports in May indicated the video game giant was having trouble acquiring components necessary for production of the Nintendo Switch because of lockdown restrictions in Malaysia and the Philippines.
This annual report indicates Nintendo is still dealing with supply issues as it also faces the possibility of development schedule delays. “In terms of production and shipping, product supply may be impacted if issues involving the procurement of necessary components persist.”
