Medli’s Melodies: A headbanging concert at the palace

Say what you will about Zelda II, but the “Palace Theme” is awesome. It’s one of the standout tracks in not just Zelda II, but you could argue the series as a whole. It captures the exploration of one of the labyrinthine and intimidating palaces while also being a catchy tune to just listen to on its own.

As a fan of Zelda II, any chance I get to talk about the game or anything anyone has created for it, I’ll take. As you might surmise, we’re going to a palace in Zelda II, and we’re gonna be headbanging to some rockin’ tunes while we’re there.

MetalLegend64 gives us an amazing symphonic metal cover of the “Palace Theme.” From the rad guitar riffs to the awesome bass, everything was done by him and mixed together to create a cover worthy of the symphonic metal name. In addition to all that, he adds his own spin towards the end with an awesome and excellently played solo, which I think adds a lot to the song as a whole, especially given how short the original song is. He’s a MetalLegend indeed.

There are two things that I remember fondly from my childhood: video games and metal music. I grew up listening to bands such as Metallica and Type-O Negative. As well as that, Zelda was a regular game in our home, especially Zelda II. This cover of the song elicits a lot of that young childhood nostalgia, both of riding in the passenger seat of my mom’s Lincoln while she blared her cassette tape of “Bloody Kisses” from Type-O Negative to exploring the overworld of Hyrule and fighting Iron Knuckles in Zelda II. Both of these things shaped a lot of my tastes in both music and games, so to have a remix that essentially combines both of those into one makes me one happy Zelda fan for sure.
