Medli’s Melodies: The Legend of Zelda TV series’ alternate Italian theme song

The theme song of The Legend of Zelda TV series is awesome. It was incredibly novel to hear an orchestrated version of the main Zelda theme back in 1989, and while you can argue that its grandeur may be somewhat diminished by Link exclaiming “Excuuuse me, princess!” at the end of the cartoon’s intro, it still sounds great to this day.

For whatever reason, the Italian version is very different.

“Un regno incantato per Zelda,” which translates to “An enchanted kingdom for Zelda,” was the name for The Legend of Zelda series in Italian broadcasting, as well as the name of its alternative theme song.

The tone in this song is entirely different when compared to the triumphant, adventurous spirit of the western version, opting instead for a slower, ’80s pop-style sound. I can’t understand the words, yet I find the chorus to be strangely catchy!

The track was performed by popular Italian singer and actress Cristina D’Avena (pictured in the header), who has recorded hundreds of theme songs for Italian-dubbed animation series such as Pokemon, One Piece, Sailor Moon, Batman: The Animated Series, and many more.
