A secret eShop update improves the exposure of the storefront’s games

Nintendo has silently pushed out an update to the eShop which offers some small improvements to game visibility and exposure on the storefront. It appears the update was pushed out some time overnight, but there was no official statement released regarding the change. It was, however, pointed out by the crew over at GameXplain in a quick video showing off the new functionality.

The update enables the ability to hover over a game from one of the main menus which, rather than remain a static image of the game’s cover art, will transition to a slideshow of the game’s screenshots. Of course, this is dependent on a developer including screenshots for their game, so hopefully, this will also encourage robust screenshot inclusion by developers as well.

Nintendo’s eShop interfaces through the years have always been fairly difficult to navigate and do not necessarily give the best exposure to smaller games and developers. They tend to be somewhat sluggish and offer a limited view of the overall catalog, which was especially an issue early on in the Switch’s life as there was a deluge of smaller indie games attempting to take advantage of the console’s success. Over time, additional features have been added to improve the experience and this is just the latest addition to that list. Hopefully, it will allow deserving developers to get the greater exposure they deserve.
