It’s finally been done. The fans have been heard and Sakurai put his foot down saying enough is enough. Every time a new Fire Emblem character has been announced for Ultimate, there is much division amongst the fans.
The Smash fans complain as there is not enough variety amongst characters and the DLC slots should belong to characters who they deem as “more deserving.” On the opposite spectrum, Fire Emblem fans are pleased that their once-dying series has been revitalized and is being immortalized through representation in the popular fighting series. Thus, Sakurai has finally come up with a decision to appease both fanbases in a very reasonable manner.

Today we received news that Nintendo will be releasing Fire Emblem Ultimate, a fighting game based on the gameplay of Super Smash Bros. In this new title, the roster will only feature characters from the Fire Emblem series. From what we know so far, the Lords (the main leads of each Fire Emblem title) will be the starting roster and you will be able to unlock every single Fire Emblem character once it has released. That’s 100+ characters! Sakurai made it clear he wanted to appeal to all the Fire Emblem fans, and not just the Awakening or Fates crowd as Fire Emblem Warriors did.
Even better, the game will feature compatibility with Fire Emblem Heroes. You can unlock the characters that you have in Heroes immediately by linking your Nintendo account to Fire Emblem Ultimate. You can also use all those hard-earned orbs to get a chance at obtaining certain characters, costumes, and stages! Similarly to the summoning stone in Heroes, for five orbs a pop, you can press your luck to win exclusive content — or you can pay directly for it through simple micro-transactions!

Sakurai seems to be very passionate and proud of this project. ”I am ashamed to say that the last Smash Bros. game did not live up to its ‘Ultimate’ title,” Sakurai says with deep regret in his eyes. “There were simply not enough Fire Emblem fighters. So, I am honored to announce that this new game will be dedicated to only these characters, with the rest of the obsolete cast removed.”
Don’t think he hasn’t considered the feelings of Smash Bros. characters, however, as he had decided to trade off characters. Marth, Roy, and Ike will stay in Smash Bros. as representatives of their series, but all other Fire Emblem characters will be replaced with the characters fans have been longing for, including Shovel Knight, Geno, Goku, and Shrek. That’s right! Smash Bros. has finally gained the rights to both animated legends, Dragon Ball Z’s Goku and the titular character of Shrek have finally been confirmed for Smash Bros Ultimate.

With all this excitement in the air, all these fans are certain to get along much better and the internet will become a much safer haven to discuss the games we are passionate about. There is absolutely nothing left to complain about at all, and all is at it should be.
Happy April Fools!
