A man was arrested in Elfers, Florida today after he attempted to use a sword to rob a 7-Eleven. Witnesses say the man, still unidentified, entered the gas station dressed in a bizarre green outfit while brandishing a large medieval sword. The outfit was described as being “something like Peter Pan” by one customer who witnessed the event, and the sword appeared to have a bright, purple hilt.
Upon reaching the counter, the man lifted the sword up at the clerk and began shouting, as the clerk remembers, strange grunting noises: “He just kept shouting stuff like ‘Hyah!’ again and again. I thought he was going to chop my head off.”
The costumed man then jumped over the counter and took hold of the register. “I think he was trying to lift it,” the clerk said. “He grabbed it on its sides, and I think he was trying to lift it over his head. I have a feeling he was going to try to throw it.”
When he realized he could not lift the register, the man vaulted back over the counter, got on the ground, and repeatedly rolled toward the exit. The police arrived on the scene as he rolled through the doors.
“I can’t say I’ve ever seen that before,” one of the two police officers who arrived on the scene said. The officers instructed the man to stop rolling and lie down, but he instead rose to his feet, pulled out a blue flute that was tied to his belt, and began to play a song. It was at this point that one of the officers fired his taser gun at the perpetrator.
The man was taken into police custody, and once he is properly identified he will be charged with multiple felonies, including attempted robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and resisting arrest. As the police placed the perpetrator in their patrol car, another passerby mentioned to the officers that he recognized the man’s outfit: “He looks like that one dude from that Nintendo thing. What was his name again? Oh, that’s right. Zelda.”
