Catherine is Link’s horse in The Legend of Zelda animated series. She’s a trusted steed that’s there to carry Link to his destination without hesitation. However, one can only question: Why the name “Catherine” for a horse?
Now, there’s nothing necessarily wrong with naming your horse
Anyway, being the bitter child that I was, I refused to call Link’s horse Catherine in the animated series. Actually, I was just so against the name I would have rather called her anything else but Catherine. My friend and I would actually just refer to her as “Not Catherine,” but we couldn’t say it at a normal pace; we had to say it really fast. Like, “keep it under two seconds” fast. Make sure you read it that way for the rest of the article.

Now a few years back when Breath of the Wild came out, they teased horses by showing off a horse named “Not Epona.” I know this was to show that the horse wasn’t Epona and that you could find horses in the wild, but this had me thinking about “Not Catherine.” I knew what I had to do once I got the game for myself and tamed my first wild horse.
The day came and I had found a horse. It took me a while to catch it, but I did get it eventually and I went to the stable to register it. However, I could not call my new steed “Not Catherine.” It wouldn’t fit with the limited amount of letters — these caps are the bane of my creativity! So I decided to name my first horse “Not Epona,” but it just wasn’t the same.
Catherine the horse as a whole is not a very prominent character in The Legend of Zelda TV series and is only featured in a few episodes. However, she played a much bigger role in my head if only because of the big fuss I made about her name all those years ago, and to me, she’ll always be “Not Catherine.”
