Yusuke Nakano, a long-time illustrator for Nintendo, recently shared development details of the massive “Everyone is Here!” Super Smash Bros. Ultimate promotional banner artwork.

In an interview with Japanese site Nintendo Dream Web (translated by Siliconera), Nakano discusses the mural’s conception, settling on the art style and design, and the trick behind adding new characters as they are announced. The original interview also features images of the mural’s progress as new fighters are implemented.

The Hero from Dragon Quest series has been added to the mural.
The Hero from the Dragon Quest series can now be found in the mural as well.

With nearly 75 playable characters in the Smash Bros. Ultimate roster (including DLC), the continuously changing illustration is an ambitious work of art. Nakano is up to the challenge, however, as he has been designing works for various Nintendo titles since 1992, including several Zelda installments. He created much of the original artwork for Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess, and was an art supervisor for Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U.

The illustration has already been updated to include the recently announced Hero from the Dragon Quest series, and Banjo-Kazooie. It’s featured as a scrolling banner on the official Super Smash Bros. website, allowing you to study the newest additions and old favorites.
