Link’s Awakening’s remade Trendy Game appears to have a Chain Chomp as a prize

There are a number of notable details to take from this new Link’s Awakening remake footage from GameXplain, but perhaps the most interesting is something I caught right at the end of the video: After Link obtains the Yoshi Doll from the Trendy Game, the doll is replaced with something new.

A small, familiar-looking Chain Chomp is sat on the platform as Link re-enters the shop at the 3:15 mark:

Unfortunately, this part of the footage is very brief, so we don’t get to see Link grab the little Chomp with the claw to identify it.

Due to the small size and the adorable ribbon, my initial thought was that this is YipYip from the original Link’s Awakening. If this is right, however, then YipYip’s placement here is peculiar — in the original game, YipYip resides in the doghouse with its owner, Madam MeowMeow.

Footage from YouTube user BRCDEvg may further prove YipYip’s new appearance as a Trendy Game prize. In the remake’s doghouse, YipYip has been replaced by a Chomp called CiaoCiao (at the 1:45 mark):

It’s worth noting, however, that CiaoCiao’s dialogue is almost identical to YipYip’s in the original game. This could indicate that YipYip has been renamed, or at least that CiaoCiao is now taking over the role of the fashion-obsessed Chain Chomp. If so, then the newly spotted one in the Trendy Game could be a brand new character.

A third (but so far unnamed) Chomp can be seen in Madam MeowMeow’s house, so the fact that she doesn’t appear to have any mutts missing could also support this theory of a new Chomp.
