Yesterday was a busy day for Nintendo Versus competitors and spectators, as the Big N streamed not one, not two, but three separate tournaments back-to-back: Super Mario Maker 2, Splatoon 2, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. And while Japan took home the top spots in both Splatoon 2 and Smash Bros., North American viewers were treated to the news of a second chance at glory.
After congratulating the Japanese team on their well-deserved win, Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser announced the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Online Open June 2019. The four Smashers who fight their way to the top of this competition will win a flight, accommodations, and registration for Evo 2019 in Las Vegas. Aside from the competition’s online nature few details were given for how it would be structured, but with it taking place in June no doubt we’ll hear more soon — perhaps during Nintendo’s E3 Direct.
You can check out the announcement in the timestamped video below. Will you be vying for one of the top four spots?
