My first time playing Majora’s Mask is an experience I’ll never forget. I still remember the excitement of getting to control Link after the opening, only for him to be wrested from my hand and suddenly controlling the newly transformed Deku Link instead. That, combined with the new and spunky fairy partner Tatl, made the opening sequence unforgettable.

Yuga’s Art Gallery is a series in which we highlight our favorite artwork from The Legend of Zelda community, as well as some official artwork from the franchise from time to time. Zelda is a series that is constantly changing its style, and after over 30 years of evolving and shifting its visuals, it continues to inspire endless ways for artists to interpret their favorite characters and moments.

This art, titled “Where Should We Go Next?” by DeviantArt user MGabric portrays Deku Link and Tatl as they’re taking a small break from the adventure. Despite Tatl’s attitude towards Link, I like to imagine the two of them becoming really good friends. The idea of them sitting on a log just having a quick chat and trying to figure out what to do next on their quest is very appealing to me. I love the use of color in this piece as well as the lighting given off by Tatl. It creates a good atmosphere and gives a strong feeling of being in a deeper part of a forest.

Though a lot of folks tend to paint the fairy companions Link gets in his journeys as obnoxious, it’s always great to see artists and the like portray the two characters as friends, which they always end up being. The lighting, the simple poses, and the color choice all combine to create a wonderful feeling of two characters taking a rest and having a nice chat with each other, and it makes this a very pleasant piece of Zelda fan art.
