Yuga’s Art Gallery: A whole new Hyrule

When Link emerged from the Shrine of Resurrection, he was greeted by an entirely different Hyrule from the one he left behind. As did Zelda when she materialized from Hyrule Castle after spending 100 years suppressing Ganon’s power. And yet, it was still a Hyrule in which their journeys and experiences of the world’s wonders were burdened, as both of them were born into roles of huge responsibility.

It wouldn’t be until after Calamity Ganon was finally defeated — when the impending doom no longer cast a shadow wherever they went — that the two could finally, peacefully soak up the joys and beauties of everything around them.

This gorgeous artwork by ALZi米 captures a moment of what this life of normality might look like for the two. Admittedly, it’s hard to say if this is a post-calamity and war-free day trip or a brief moment of respite during the next dangerous quest the two must face. But I’d like to think that, ever since the world was saved from Calamity Ganon, Link is taking Zelda across Hyrule to experience some of those nuggets of joy that she’s been missing out on. Looking at Zelda and Link’s expressions, this is no doubt what ALZi was going for.

With a pose that implies Link has brought Zelda specifically here to see this, he keeps the two of them hidden behind a rock and holds a delicate finger up to remind Zelda to stay quiet, or else they may scare off the magnificent Lord of the Mountain. Zelda shows pure excitement and awe in her expression while still following Link’s guidance to remain silent. Link’s returning look is clearly filled with happiness and warmth from seeing Zelda so elated.

It makes me wonder where else Link would take Zelda, now that they have all the time they like to explore the world. Does he take her for a dive at Zora’s Domain? Do they admire Lake Hylia together? Do they go snowboarding in the Hebra Mountains and sit together in a hot spring at the base afterward? Speaking of hot springs, do they visit Death Mountain together for a really exciting memory?

In any case, this artwork portrays such a cute moment, and it makes my heart so full. Is there anything as beautiful as two people who deeply care for each other sharing something so awe-inspiring? Plus, with Zelda, Link gets to experience many of these lived moments of joy all over again.
