Today’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct provided an almost overwhelming amount of news for the game. We were also treated to not one, but two brand new character additions!
The first is Simon Belmont! The main protagonist of Castlevania joins the Smash Bros. cast and brings with him many of the weapons he used in his own game. Besides his signature Vampire Killer whip, Simon can use an axe, cross, and holy water. You’ll also likely recognize some of his other techniques, such as his uppercut. His Final Smash, Grand Cross, traps opponents in a coffin while Simon unleashes a barrage of energy crosses upon them, sending them flying off the screen.
You can see it all in his introduction trailer!
However, Simon isn’t the only new character to enter the fray. King K. Rool from Donkey Kong has finally arrived! K. Rool looks as devious as ever and his moves are inspired by his appearances in the Donkey Kong games. His special moves seem to include his Kannonball-firing blunderbuss, throwing his crown, a counter, and a command throw of some sort (similar in appearance to Bowser’s). His Final Smash takes inspiration from Donkey Kong 64 and will look familiar to those who played the game.
Take a look at the trailer below!
Finally, we also received news about three more fighters. Richter, Chrom, and Dark Samus are here as well! Representing Castlevania, Fire Emblem, and Metroid respectively, these three appear as Echoes of existing characters. Richter is an Echo of Simon, Chrom is an Echo of Roy, and Dark Samus is an Echo of Samus.
These three may be echo fighters, but they do possess unique characteristics to separate them from the original characters. For instance, Chrom can use Aether despite Roy not having that ability.
