Three new characters will make their debut on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, in the shape of Inkling from Splatoon, Daisy from the Mushroom Kingdom, and Ridley, who causes Samus plenty of hassle in the Metroid series.
Inkling was always expected to hit Super Smash Bros. this time around. Interestingly, any ink that is dispensed by Inkling will cover opponents, and this will then incur further damage to them. It’s a fine detail, yet a fantastic touch in terms of both aesthetics and gameplay.
Inkling will be equipped with the Slosher, Splat Bomb and Splat Roller. You can select between a boy or girl Inkling, and the Final Smash is Killer Whale.
Daisy is an echo character of Peach. Echo characters are based on similar characters with a few tweaks and characteristics that set them apart from each other. This allows Daisy to have her own slot on the roster and be different to Peach, rather than just appear as a different costume of the same character.
Daisy plays very similar to Peach, with a moveset and mechanics you will no doubt be familiar with if you have played Super Smash Bros. previously.
In perhaps the biggest surprise of the presentation, Ridley has made an appearance in Super Smash Bros.! Previously Ridley has appeared as an enemy NPC, but now the Metroid character will be available as a playable character for the first time. At least some of Ridley’s move set can be observed in the video above.
You can get fighting with Inkling, Daisy and Ridley in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate when it smashes onto shelves on December 7, 2018.
