Kass, in my opinion, is one of the greatest cast inclusions in Breath of the Wild; dare I say that his appearance even rivals that of the magnificent Sidon. While I always do have trouble picking one over the other, I have to say that I think Kass’s theme is far superior to Sidon’s.

His theme was brilliant enough on the accordion alone, so when Simmon Hanna Music added a full-on orchestra to this piece it became phenomenal.

When I listen to solo instrumental covers of songs, I usually have a longing for more instruments to be brought in. In Breath of the Wild, since most of the soundtrack was like this, and even though it worked perfectly for the atmospheric effect of the game, I still yearned for the grand orchestras that Zelda is known for. Thankfully, such dedicated fans such as Simmon Hanna Music had made those dreams a reality.

Kass’s theme had me won over the instant I heard it, so adding strings, percussion, and even a choir had me floored! At the 55-second mark upon my first hearing of this rendition, I was nearly in tears by the gorgeous addition of the angelic choir and proud brass. I absolutely loved the chord progression during the heroes theme portion of the song. The whole thing had me imagining a Hyrulean ball celebrating the defeat of Calamity Ganon, with everyone dancing while Link and Zelda taking the center of the floor in gorgeous attire, and Kass sings the lyrics to his final ballad.

He introduced himself as a wandering bard and already I had fallen in love, but little did I know how major of a role he would actually play.

As soon as I met Kass in my file of Breath of the Wild, I was immediately entranced. I remember climbing the Gerudo tower, hearing a strange tune. Where was it coming from? It sounded so mysterious and pleasing to the ear, I had to find out where it was coming from. After a stamina-draining climb, I reached the top to find the musician perched near the edge. He introduced himself as a wandering bard and already I had fallen in love, but little did I know how major of a role he would actually play.

Whenever I heard this ballad, I would rush to the source knowing Kass would be there with a new tune to play and a riddle to solve. After completing all of his trials and hearing his grand finale, it was sad to no longer hear his theme across the vast world of Hyrule. Of course, I do love visiting him in the Rito Village from time to time to listen to his final aria, and the haunting melody along with the profound lyrics touch my heart every time. Hearing this song transformed into a full-on waltz enhances those feelings tenfold, and I am looking forward to any more transformations Simmon Hanna Music has in store for other Breath of the Wild melodies in the future!
