Quiz Time: You’ve just revealed a ton of details and the release date for your highly anticipated, odyssey-themed Super Mario video game. How do you market it?

If you answered, “By building a gaming booth inside an airport”, then congratulations! You think like a Nintendo employee! (Or you read the article title.)

Kansai International Airport is set to welcome fliers to the world of Nintendo starting on June 23, 2017. A “game experience space” will invite passersby to experience Nintendo games on the Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo 3DS, and on mobile. Outside the booth a statue of Mario and Cappy will be on display for photo opportunities, and promotional banners will line the path to the booth; similar to how Target decked out their stores for the release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. To further entice players new and old, a free gift will be offered to visitors for the first three days. Also, photo sessions with Mario himself are scheduled for the same three days.

The announcement page says there will be “about” three titles available to play on the Nintendo Switch; one to two titles on the 3DS; and one to two mobile titles. The hours are stated as 10:30am to 5:30pm “all year round”, although it’s hard to say how long the booth will be open once Super Mario Odyssey releases on October 27, 2017.

If you’re passing through the Kansai International Airport in the coming months, be sure to snap a few pictures and share them with us. We love seeing our fans enjoying Nintendo games. (Bonus points if your pictures have Zelda in them!)
