With the final downloadable characters for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS finally released only this year, it seems silly to think the Smash Bros. fanbase still clings to a two-generation old version of the Nintendo IP free-for-all. Nevertheless, Super Smash Bros. Melee’s popularity persists to this day; scooping up more contestants than any other game in most esports competitions, and continuing to be a fan-favorite in the franchise.
So it’s no surprise that some of these more artistic fans came together to reanimate Melee’s famous opening. From the Hal Laboratory logo to the flying credits, every bit of the opening is fan-animated in various styles. Despite the many artistic directions, it all flows together amazingly well and has several humorous bits. You can check out the full animation below, and relive the nostalgia in a new way.
