All Nintendo fans know by now there was a fan ballot for downloadable characters to make the fighter roster for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS. Fans of the game felt this was their chance to get some of their past favourites from the Smash series back, and the likes of the Ice Climbers, Pokemon Trainer, and others had their hat thrown into the ring. Although it wasn’t meant to be for those combatants, it got fans thinking about their favorite fighters again!

During an interview with Nintendo Dream, series director Masahiro Sakurai brought up someone from the good old days of the Super Nintendo that would have fit into Smash perfectly. That someone took the form of a certain doll from Rose Town, who helped Mario fix the Star Road in Super Mario RPG. If you haven’t figured it out by now, that someone is Geno. When characters only get Mii Fighter costumes, it feels like the players/fans are getting the short end.

Sakurai wanted Geno to be a playable character in the current Super Smash Bros. games and feels that he is a popular character among the fanbase. He also feels that his attacks from Super Mario RPG would translate well to Smash Bros., since he uses gun/beam attacks. Personally, I think Super Mario RPG needs to be represented in Smash Bros. more; it was one of the first games I remember playing on the Super Nintendo and purchasing with my own money. It would be nice to see one of my favorite games get the recognition it deserves, and seeing Geno or Mallow fighting against Link or Pikachu would be a nice start!
