Tecmo Koei “aiming to sell more than one million copies” of Hyrule Warriors

Hyrule Warriors developer Tecmo Koei has high hopes for the upcoming Zelda spin-off title. In an interview with Nikkei Trendy (with a translation from Nintendo Everything), president Yoichi Erikawa shared the company’s goals for the fiscal year. One of these was to shift one million units of the game worldwide.

“In addition to our Warriors series fan base, Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda is also a very popular series with a large fan base, and I think it will become a great new market. Because of The Legend of Zelda’s legion of fans overseas, we are aiming to sell more than one million copies worldwide.”

Despite the relatively low user base of the Wii U, it doesn’t seem outside the realm of possibility that Hyrule Warriors will meet the million mark. Considering the strength of the Zelda brand name, and the fact that the remake Wind Waker HD sold over a million, it seems like a perfectly reasonable target.
