In late March, Sonic Lost World surprised the world and released free downloadable content that featured The Legend of Zelda series. Now, in an interview with 4Gamer, Sonic Lost World producer Takashi Iizuka gave the reasoning behind having Sonic dress in Link’s classic Tunic in Lost World’s “Zelda Zone”. Whereas in the Yoshi DLC for Sonic Lost World where Sonic merely runs around and collects eggs, there are players that may not have been familiar with the Zelda series and could have felt that the terrain was a generic, over-sized area as opposed to a depiction of Hyrule Field. This is why Iizuka felt it was necessary to garb Sonic in Link’s all-too-familiar green tunic and give Sonic Lost World’s “Zelda Zone” some familiarity.
“While talking with the designers, we were wondering how we could have Sonic wear these clothes and look normal while covering his spikes”
“While talking with the designers, we were wondering how we could have Sonic wear these clothes and look normal while covering his spikes,” Iizuka said. “In any case, I was definitely worried at the time of designing.”
In any case, the end result is a fantastic display of a crossover that many people never thought would have happened. Would you like to see more Sonic/Zelda crossover DLC, or perhaps even a crossover game in the future?
